Is it really five years since I was in Canada? Those beautiful days of fun are so far away now, as I sit waiting for my next hospital appointment, and the ankle operation.
I checked on Google Earth last week, and the beautiful house I lived in for 6 glorious months, is now just another patch of tarmac. Where squirrels, and foxes ran free and frolicked, is now one more desecration of beauty in the chase for the almighty dollar. When I left they were building a Ramada Inn, not half a mile away.
The Native Americans from nearby Beaver Lake reservation will still dance their chicken dances, and the crowds will flock to the Powwow each year, as I did that Summer. It was a time of love, beauty and peace.
The book Canadian memories is available on Amazon. The journey over the ice fields of the Northern Territories prompted the stories of Nerja & Glacier of Death.
I planned on doing an extended version of the book I dedicated to the lady I loved, but gave the idea up. I did write a series a series of short stories, meant as a farewell to my lovely friend, Faye. They'll never see light of day; I almost didn't finish the stories, I had a mental breakdown. They were a final, loving farewell from me to her,
The house has gone, Faye passed away the same year I returned, all that remains are my memories and photos of a lovely time with a lovely lady.
R.I.P. Faye, I still miss you.
I have a friend in the Dallas area called Ronda Dee, and like me, Ronda is a struggling disabled writer. It would please her greatly if you could drop in to her blog http://bldee3.wordpress.com/ and leave a comment, ty. The lady writes lovely, and sensitive poetry from the heart. Something, I can no longer do.
In the real world.
Last night I turned down a job offered by a writer on Freelancer , the reasons are not important.
I often rant about Asians, but listen to this. The man offering me the job had no sense of flow/grammar, and when I checked his price to hire it was $30 per hour.
I believe most of us have heard of an author called Stephen King, his books go for a top price of about $10, and he has a reputation.
At the price this man charges, I should be charging about $40 an hour, but by charging only $4, I feel it easier to prove my worth; also somebody is more likely to hire you at a lower rate. Supply & Demand, what I miss by charging a low rate, I may make up by getting the work load.
This may be the dawn of a new era in my writing. Many people question why writers ghost write. Once the story is handed over, all we see is a one-off payment. If the story sells well, we may lose out, if it doesn't, at least we got paid work.
Tonight I had a bid accepted to write a story, the only problem is the remit is too vague :- Write a beautiful story.
No theme, or length mentioned.
I have a three week project ahead, and a feeling I am moving forward , finally.
As a bye word, I turned down another good offer at the same time as accepting the first. The reason is the same as why I turned down the offer from Horny Devil Publishing two years ago.
I can write good erotica as my stories as my stories https://www.draft2digital.com/book/32234 &
demonstrate, but I can't write them every day, or week as was required in these cases.
I am planning on running all the Forgestriker series in one volume, in the next few weeks.
To add to this volume, I will also be adding a new preface which precedes https://www.draft2digital.com/book/32173 and a story which continues after https://www.draft2digital.com/book/32173 .
At the end of this project, I may turn the collection into a print version, as I have been asked is it available.
The series will continue, with the men -- and women -- who are freed from the prisons taking a new name for their cadre. They will no longer be known as the 7th Baalite Guard.
Join the $1 rush. 80% of my e-books, no matter how long they took to write are only $1. The rest are $1,50 still less than the price of a coffee :( This offer won't last long, as soon there won't be anything new coming out.
I used to enjoy writing, the fun of creating new worlds, and characters; the drive to explore new regions of imagination. But, I don't any more :(
Now, I sit at my laptop, and spend hours trying to convince myself it is worth the time, and effort I put into writing my stories.
The only thing I am 100% convinced of is nobody cares any more. So, when this closes in October, you won't miss me.
I have just read an article on my friend Julia's page about an author who chose to become an Indie writer, and succeeded.
At the end of the article, my view was it is the same old story again. "NY Times top seller becomes Indie success." Well, hell yeah. She is a top selling writer, with a massive following, people asking for her books. She can't miss, even if she's lousy at advertising, people know her, and will seek her out. How could she fail?
I am known for outrageous ideas, and plot lines, so here is one. What would happen, if --- this is the outrageous part -- one of my books was taken up by an agent for a publishing house?
Let us conjure up a scenario. After getting passed the stage of total disbelief, and being convinced its not a scam/ rip off. Would I take a huge advance? No. Maths 101, the less I take, the quicker it's paid off.
The scene changes to a book deal for my next book, as the popularity of the original grows. I have to ask myself, where is this going? Can I keep up with the demand?
I know I work well to deadlines, but at the same time, I am filled with self-doubt which can stay for days/weeks.
What would happen, if the story became like the now defunct Chronicles of Mark Johnson, a story I no longer wish to be associated with? Would it be like Holmes to Conan Doyle? Public demand forced the hero's return after his fall at the falls.
Then there is always my fear to contend with. I have only got over the fear of public speaking in the last month or two. How would I react to requests for book signings?
As I said, this is all a fantastic twist, in a warped imagination. Get real, it won't happen.
AUTHORSdB.com. I have no proof the increase in sales over the last few weeks can be attributed to joining AUTHORSdB.com http://authorsdb.com/authors-directory/12138-alan-place I can say there has been a marked, and constant, growth in the traffic to my blogs since joining http://alsdomain.weebly.com/
Barnes & Noble. The best move I made is joining Draft2Digital. They are an Oklahoma based book selling site https://www.draft2digital.com/contact/ . Without their contact with Barnes & Noble, http://www.barnesandnoble.com/c/alan-place I would probably not be writing now, other than for a few friends. Amazon are useless for sales, unless you're an established name; so far this month I have sold more e-books on B&N than in the majority of months on Amazon. While that may sound terrific, take into account we are only on day 3 of the month, and I have sold 3 e-books. Not good for Amazon.
Treble figures. I realise hitting the century for sales is no biggie for most writers, but to me this is a huge milestone. I can try -- and try is the operative term -- to convince myself people like my e-books, even if most of the sales are for the Forgestriker series http://alsdomain.weebly.com/forgestriker---the-hit-series.html
Which book? I wonder which book will claim the crown to being the 100th sale?
Ghost stories. Over the last three, or four years I have gained a rep on line for writing chilling ghost stories. I still enjoy writing them, and I always will. However, other than The Ghost of St. Mary's none have sold.
A new approach. I decided to try a different sales approach for a while, and move away from spooks, chills, and terrors of the mind.
Family books. My new e-books will be family-themed stories.
Sales. Although agonisingly slow my sales figures for the last quarter have shown a steady growth. Each month I sell one more than the previous month. I hope this new move will in some way break the hold Forgestriker is maintaining. The series has sold over 80% of my sales, and the title book has sold over 40% of the total sales figures for the current six-month period.
A place to read generalisms of my thoughts, some book related and others general chatter.
