Similarly, I enjoy the style of Russian and East European music; Shostakiovch, Profokiev, Janacek and Tchiakovsky are among my favourites, that is not to say I don't listen to others; I am very fond of Brahmms and Weber, not so much Bach, Beethoven and Mozart but I am a big fan of Schubert.
One of my earliest classical tapes was Schubert's Wanderer fantasy played by Albert Brendel, who retired not long ago; two of my biggest regrets centre around Russian music or musicians. A few years ago, Brendel retired and one of his last UK performances was not far from my home. The other was that at the same hall, Viktoria Mullova, the violinist played a rare UK performance; she has only been in the UK twice in over 30 years and the previous time was about 20 years ago to the London Festival of Jazz. I missed both through helping other people, such is my kind heart.
