This is the new name and format for what used to be the Cheltenham Folk Festival. For two or three years the festival was a highlight of the music scene for me.
Although saving for the festival didn't make the dark days less dark, and gloomy, the thought of going cheered me up; this festival marked the beginning of a new year of folk music for me.
Among the big names on the UK folk scene I saw, and got to talk to where Eliza Carthy, Martin Carthy, Christine Collister, Julie Walters, Chris & Kellie While, The Witches of Elswick, Nancy Kerr & James Fagan. Perhaps one of the biggest disappointments was not seeing Norma Waterston http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norma_Waterson, the year she was scheduled to appear, she had to re turn to her home in Hull; her brother Mike had been taken seriously ill.
As he has since died, Norma is the only one of the original Waterston's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Watersons alive.
