I can never play "Highland Memories" without crying, this was the alarm on my phone for the last day I spent with my late friend, Faye, in Canada.
I have always loved the sound of the Scottish bagpipes and had the honour of marching with them in my days at RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland.
The sound up close is so beautiful and haunting it is easy to see why the Scots get roused when listening to the pipes.
Having served in the RAF in Scotland entitles me to wear the RAF light blue and dark blue tartan, but with my scarred knees there is no chance of it happening.
Sadly, with defence cuts "Lossie" no longer exists, neither does RAF Laarbruch, where I was stationed in Germany. Laarbruch is now Weeze airport, a sub-division of a larger internal airline.
