Romance in Israel
While my Amazon rating rises, do not forget that A Homecoming is available on Draft2Digital www.draft2digital.com/book/235628
A wish come true
He'd wanted to return to Southampton for so long that he could not recall a time when it was not on his mind; all these years life has put obstacles in his path, and now was his chance to return after more than 50 years away.
All he had was a few memories from a time long ago when the family spent six months living with his late aunt. They were glorious months of peace, made more romantic for being the final time that the two Queen ships (Mary and Elizabeth) were in port at the same time for the last time http://alsdomain.weebly.com/at-the-blogstop/memories-of-the-queens#.WctY7EuGPrc .
Being a writer, the irony of his train journey wasn't lost on him. He was in a backward facing seat, going back to a time long ago when he was at peace.
Queen Mary https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RMS_Queen_Mary later set off to become a tourist attraction at Long Beach, Califonia, while her sister ship Queen Elizabeth https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RMS_Queen_Elizabeth#Final_years set off in the other direction for Hong Kong, where she was involved in a fire and left like a wreck; a terrible end to such a magnificent vessel.
During WW2, despite being Merchant ships both Queens were relentlessly hunted by the German Navy, and never caught as they could outrun any ship on the seas.
He has memories of a city rich in history with a beautiful Medieval gate at its centre, he had no idea what to expect when he arrived back after so long; but what he saw horrified him.
With time, the centre had been turned into what amounted to a tacky amusement park in his eyes.
The main reason for the journey was to fulfil a promise he made to himself that he would return to say his farewell to his beloved aunt, who he missed, even though it was over 30 years since her passing.
As he walked back through the parks with tears in his eyes, he thought "I made the trip back, Aunty Mabel.
I will keep my schoolboy memories of the city with me for all times, not what I've seen today.
The Great Escape
As my #e-books www.amazon.com/-/e/B007U50BOI are not selling, and I cannot find the drive to write hereiamattheedgeblogspotcouk.wordpress.com/2017/09/17/the-lights-all-went-out/.
I decided to get an #Xbox one as a way of passing the time when I am in my room
The day has come
For several years, I have built up a library of books and e-books for the day when I wouldn't be able to get out; that day is near at hand this year.
An error of judgement in my case
It is raining here in Bristol but that makes no difference to me as I will be going out soon, come wind, rain, sleet or snow I am told to stay away from my stepson – I am not the troublemaker – that means if he’s in, which he is most days I have to be out of the house.
I’ll find somewhere dry to work in and leave the family in peace.
Once I am in the wheelchair I don't know how I will be able to continue to go out everyday to keep the peace
Some writers dream of living in the sun on a beautiful sunny beach at their feet to watch the sun setting at the end of the day. True, I would love to visit Israel, but my dream house is the house on the left of this picture I took on my last visit to Scarborough in Yorkshire.
The house is the old armorer's lodge from when the castle was a fortress, not a museum.
The venue is not on a sunny beach but on the NorthEast coast of England, with the North Sea winds lashing in from Fall to early Spring. This is a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npL9UDMU9TU I took on my trip, the flapping sound you hear is my raincoat in the wind.
I went there to get over the loss of a close friend, the peace I found gave me time to write my award-winning e-book Chronicles of Mark Johnson.
As much as I would love to visit hotter climates, I could never live there; I suffer from severe migraines, and the heat would make my life a misery. Also, the dryness would make breathing very hard for me to breathe.
Have blog will travel!
This week's surprise is the number of readers of my blogs in the Ukraine.
I have known for years that I had a good readership behind the Iron Curtain. I put this down to my stories being closer to Harry Palmer than James Bond.
I wanted to be known for Supernatural stories
This is the cover of a book that no longer exists, it was once an award winning book but that didn't make any difference in the sales department, after five years of no sales it vanished into the dust.
The difference to the life of a writer in becoming an award-winner was in my case less than nothing. I am not sure if I had followed trends that I would have sold more books, writing is so hard to succeed at. The only consolation for me is that I can say what I did I did My way hereiamattheedge.blogspot.co.uk/2015/09/my-way.html#.Wak_FMh97IV
I thought I'd like to be known for ghost stories when I started ten years ago, in the end, I became known for a best-selling sci-fi series Forgestriker . In the long run, did it matter how I made my name as a writer?
Free to read
As you are reading this blog for free, I ask myself this question. Is it worth maintaining a standard?
This is a vexed question from my view point as a once award-winning, and best-selling writer of speculative fiction.
On the one hand, people who have read my work come to expect a standard of writing from me, but on the contrary, I question why I should maintain my high quality when my book sales keep falling, and fewer people read what I write.
Some people would say that if I let my quality drop, the readers will fall too; to this, my reply is that if the readers didn't fall off, I would have maintained a quality of writing.
Other friends tell me what do I think about as my quality falls?
Do I feel saddened?
The answer is NO!
When you spend over a year writing a book that ends up in the trash pile because nobody wanted to buy it, you have passed the point of caring what standard you write.
I know I am better than some writers I know of, I have proved it in contests, but they have a huge advantage over me; they have the money to promote their work.
If you wish to leave any comments on here, please feel free, I am always pleased to hear how readers feel about my work.
