I have come to many conclusion over the past six months about the site.
1) - It's run by Asians for Asians, as seems most web sites are theses days.
2) - Quality of work has no value.
3) - Passing tests does NOT get you anywhere.
4) - People want quality work but are willing to pay a pittance if they can get Asians to do the job.
One of the most startling discoveries is the lack of manners on the site, and not only from Asians.
I have applied for over 120 jobs in my time on the site; I estimate about 75% of them I cancelled because people never replied. A further 10% were cancelled by the proposers, 10% I cancelled because I was offered work, only to find the work had been given to somebody else. This leaves a tiny 5% of my application bringing in money.
One job offer in six weeks, that is how often I get a serious writing assignment. Sure, there is a constant stream of people asking for recipes and to promote goods but that isn't for me.
The pay ($50 a job) may appear good, but when you work out how often I get paid the pay is trivial as it works out to less than $1 a day most times.
There is a new policy called ENTERPRISE alsdomain.weebly.com/life-as-an-indie-ghostwriter/upwork-enterprise, this is supposed to get you more and better work, the draw back is you need to be top-rated for 13 out of 16 weeks to qualify; with one job in six-weeks that isn't an option.
