When I joined Upwork https://www.upwork.com/freelancers/~0115a52654d3cda29a, my first thought was - How am I going to be able to compete for work against all these people with degrees and all this experience?
The only thing I could bring to the table was a vivid imagination and the art of story-telling - at which I am very good. The last two months have proved to be an eye-opener for me.
I may not have all the qualifications and experience they have, but my style is winning me jobs by the day. Another asset is that I am always polite and this is going in my favour too. I am being asked to apply for so many jobs that I may have to politely decline soon.
I could do more
One of the reasons for me limiting who much I write, is that four years ago I had a melt down. At the time, I was doing in excess of 15,000 words a week - this went on for several months - and the writing became my addiction. On the advice of friends, I took an enforced leave of several weeks to calm my nerves.
Two years ago, I started the book https://www.draft2digital.com/book/34522. After 14 months living and loving with my character, I stopped writing the story, and the lack of interest for the work drove me to the point of almost quitting writing.
I keep being told that I am a best-selling writer and popular, until this month I didn't believe it because few of my books have sold. I am happy to say my work as a ghostwriter has changed my mind - I am a good writer.
