Breaking all the rules
I may not like what I will be writing, but there again, I am not the prospective buyer, as a business person, I am driven to give the customer what they require. MY feelings don't come into the equation. If I am going to earn money from writing, I need to give the client what they want, and my Upwork profile proves that I am more than capable of being a provider to most needs.
Until now one of my basic tenets has been not to work for Asians. I have many contacts with Asians, and none have been pleasant. The people I came across were pushy, arrogant, and vulgar. They treated me like a serf and had no manners, or concept of how to ask for work to be done - all they are capable of doing - is issuing demands.
Another rule I tried not to break until now is the class of writing. I have stayed away from writing cheap porn because I thought I was above the lowest denominator of reading, that has changed, I can no longer turn my back on any offers of work as I only get one offer in every six weeks.
This year, my concepts have changed from writing what I think people will like (character-based stories) to writing what they want (mass produced, vacuous, shallow reading). I may not like where I am going, but to make a little money, I need to lower my standards or quit writing.
