To most people this isn't a major task, ask mam or dad, but my mother and I haven't been on talking terms for many years, so the task is hard as you can imagine.
Last year I was able to confirm a family story concerning my late Uncle John during WW2 http://alsdomain.weebly.com/1/post/2013/08/service-life.html#.UpzUj9JdXDM a story which might be printed in the next edition of Vintage Script magazine, which is edited by my friend Emma Oram http://alsdomain.weebly.com/9/post/2013/11/vintage-script.html#.UpzVF9JdXDM .
Tonight, I think I might have located my Uncle Len, there can't be many Len Oliver's living in Redcar, Teeside, with a wife called Alice. What makes it even more remarkable is that I only visited the house 3 or 4 times before we moved to Bristol over 50 years ago :)
I am trying to do for my grandchild, Jake, what I never had the chance and that is to have some family history.
My grandmother died when I was 3 and we left Middlesbrough when I was 7; the next thing I knew my grandfather died when I was 16-my children are lucky, they have memories of their grandparents, I have none.
