The phrase could so aptly be written about the state of Israel this year.
Despite the waves of intensified terrorism that left half the country in flames www.timesofisrael.com/israel-moves-to-help-citizens-whose-homes-went-up-in-flames/, the western world showed compassion and put religion aside to help Israel, with water bombers coming from all over - including one from the USA that had only just been built www.israeltoday.co.il/NewsItem/tabid/178/nid/30593/Default.aspx.
Only weeks later, the same countries who helped her, have now condemned Israel for living in the land of the Lord unitedwithisrael.org/israeli-researchers-decipher-rare-roman-era-artifact-that-mentions-the-name-judea/, a proposal opened by the president of the United States of America www.jpost.com/Opinion/Our-World-Obamas-war-against-America-476598.
While I can understand the actions of the Israeli PM - Benjamin Netanyahu www.jewishpress.com/news/israel/israel-responds-to-unsc-resolution/2016/12/25/ - he feels that after being stabbed in the back by the Muslim chief in the USA this leaves his country alone. He has to temper his reaction with caution because by imposing sanctions left, right and centre he is doing more damage to his country than the BDS campaign www.haaretz.com/opinion/editorial/1.761523. His opponents in the Knesset - and there are many - are going to take these action to bring him down.
I can't help wondering if the police actions against his wife, Sara www.israeltoday.co.il/NewsItem/tabid/178/nid/30640/Default.aspx, are adding to his fury.
