Thanks. I will never know who you are, or where you are. On my other blog I had a feature which showed about 80% of my blogs were read in the USA, which is why I write with the American audience in mind. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for making Tuesday the the best day of both readers, and posts read. This does include the days when I put Sexual Explosions on line.
The figures. On Tuesday I had over 2,000 posts read by over 1,200 readers. There were over 1,000 posts read by the time I logged in at 13:00 GMT.
SEO experts. Search Engine Optimiser Experts are everywhere on line telling you how to improve your figures. Frankly, I don't see a value -- in my case -- sure, I could do better, but I set my bar at 200 readers, reading about 300 posts, and rarely drop below the figure. I could have had a fit last night. My figures dropped from over 1,200 readers on Tuesday to only 200 yesterday, but I don't judge success against the previous day's figures; I judge success on reaching my targets.
Experts. By definition these are people who know more than you; which in the modern IT world include my 18 year old, and I would estimate about 80% of Western civilization. I know when I press the key it makes a contact, and sends a signal to a point in the circuit. I write, therefore, I am. As long a I can write, I don't require to know the technicalities of how my laptop functions.
Key words. There is a lot of talk about finding key words, and people pay good money to have them would. WHAT THE HELL!!!!! Read what you write, and look for hooks, words/phrases that can link to other sites, and to other possible articles. Most of my blogs feed back to my blog in some way, which helps the figures.
Inside the blog. This is the part where many blogs fall down. I've been asked many times, what is my secret; mainly because my posts on other blogs boost their ratings, rarely does it affect my blog. I have no secret, but I will give you a few tips as to why I think my blogs are popular.
1) I never put my family business on line, the recent post I mentioned from this week was included because what happened between my mother and I had a general perspective to many families. Usually, my personal business is my business.
2) My blog is not about me, I will give my views on things; after all that is the personality of the blog, but I never use it to say pleases look at me, and what I'm doing.
3) Although I will blog about my work, the blog is NOT, and never will be a book blog. I have thought about doing fun interviews with my characters, but sales of the books -- other than theForgestriker series -- show me there is little to no interest in my books/characters.
4) Variety. If I did have a secret, it would be that readers of the blog are never sure what to expect, I may do a book review, an article on Philosophy, a short story, or just a comment on something happening in the world.
Twitter. To end, one aspect should be taken into account; these figures do NOT include Twitter. I know because although I can't tell where -- location -- I can tell what which on line site is reading the blog. Twitter only has one or two reads per month; equal to Allergy.com.
